The Best Mac Email App

Sparrow is simply the greatest email client for the Mac. You can’t get better than this. Sparrow supports iCloud, Gmail, Google Apps, Yahoo!, AOL, and pretty much anything that runs an IMAP server. It allows you either have a unified inbox or separate inboxes and its interface can either be really simple or really complicated. Sparrow also can get files from your Dropbox, which, like me, if you use it a lot, this can be epic as fuck. It displays profile pictures, which as I don’t have many friends, it is noticeable that almost none of my emails have contact pictures beside them. You can “Quick Look” all of your attachments as well. If you think Sparrow is as pimpin’ as I do, then head on over to the download page. It’s $10, but there’s also a free version with ads.

No More $100 Printer Deals

Remember the program where you could buy a Mac and save up to $100 on a new printer? Well, that program has officially ended. Here’s what Apple said:

Printer Rebates Ending on January 17

Effective Tuesday, January 17, the printer rebate will no longer be offered.

Monday, January 16 will be the last day customers can get a rebate on a qualifying printer when purchased with a Mac. Customers will have 90 days from the date of purchase to submit rebate claims. An additional 30 days will be given to correct invalid claims.

The Apple Retail Store and the Apple Online Store will continue to sell printers, albeit without a rebate offer.

U.S. and CA only: Wednesday, May 16 is the last day the online Apple Rebate Tool will be available to submit rebates. Customers should submit their claims according to the terms of the promotion.

Did anyone even use this rebate program? I’ve bought two Macs and have never used it. Anyways, for those who did use it, well, sorry, but tough shit for you.

Waterproof iPhones?

Ever dropped your iPhone in a liquid substance? Yeah, me neither – but a company HzO is said to be working with Apple in order the prevent breaking the iPhone if it were ever to contact water. Samsung is probably getting on board with it, so why not Apple? Here’s why HzO says:

“We showed the Samsung Chairman the technology with a Samsung Galaxy S that we had coated with HZO and he couldn’t believe his eyes,” a representative of the company told us. “Samsung is really excited by the tech.”

The company has told us that they are also talking to Apple as well, hoping to be able to let Apple make the iPhone 5 waterproof.

“We expect HZO to be in next season’s phones,” HZO told Pocket-lint rather confidently.

You know what else is awesome? This waterproof case is fucking invisible! If Apple actually goes with this, then sales would skyrocket.

Even More iPad 3 Rumors

Here’s some more iPad 3 rumors. Luckily, today, these rumors are from somewhat reliable sources, so I guess you could take them with a grain of salt. This one’s from Bloomberg:

Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s next iPad tablet, due in March, will sport a high-definition screen, run a faster processor and work with long-term evolution wireless networks, according to three people familiar with the product. [...] The tablet will use a quad-core chip, an enhancement that lets users more quickly jump between applications, two of the people said.

So the Apple A6 will be a quad-core processor? There’s been a lot of rumors on whether the iPad 3 will be thicker, thinner, or the same as the iPad 2. That small battle has caused hundreds of flame wars. Oh, are here’s more stuff from Bloomberg:

Apple is bringing LTE to the iPad before the iPhone because the tablet has a bigger battery and can better support the power requirements of the newer technology, said one of the people.

The new display is capable of greater resolution than the current iPad, with more pixels on its screen than some high- definition televisions, the person said. The pixels are small enough to make the images look like printed material, according to the person. Videos begin playing almost instantly because of the additional graphics processing, the person said.

The iPad 3 must have a ton of changes, as Foxconn factories are now open for twenty-four hours a day.

iTunes Store Pop-Ups

I’m not sure why this is a big deal, but iTunes now has pop-up windows for apps. Whenever a user opens an clicks the “i” (that’s right, it’s italicized) icon, this window will pop up. Apple has made this out like it’s some huge, revolutionary product. The pop-up windows have different content depending on which area of the store the user is in, with music, books, and podcasts offering a description of the item picked. The pop-ups for music and podcasts have existed since god knows when, with only the ones for Apps recently appearing. Anyways, news sites are eating this shit up, so why not us as well?

Apple Shop Coming to 25 Target Stores

Y’know about those Apple kiosks within Best Buy stores? Well, Target has confirmed its plans to do the same thing in 25 of its stores in the United States. I used to think that Target was a piece of shit, but now I’m kinda neutral on the subject. I’ve been against them since 2007 for absolutely no reason. The stores probably won’t be as large as the ones in Best Buy for obvious reasons. Not many details have been announced, so that’s all I can say about it for now.

Apple Buys Anobit

Don’t you hate it when your SSD drives get slow and clunky after about a year or so? Well, Anobit, an Israeli company that engineers NAND flash memory controllers that can drastically improve the lifespan of the drives, has been bought by Apple for USD 390 million. It’s MSP (Micro Signal Processing) technology makes flash memory even more faster, and they get much more life. This makes it so that iPhones, iPads, and Macs won’t age for a while longer. This is a crucial piece of Apple’s three man road to world domination, as possessing this technology could mean that other companies have no chance when it comes to their flash memory performance.
